Eating Out

If eating out is your thing, then Ezulwini is the place to be. Swaziland’s best restuarants are within 2km of Lidwala, including: Calabash, Royal villas, Royal Swazi Sun, Boma, Mantenga lodge, Pub and Grill, Ocean Basket Mug anBean, Happy Valley and Great Taipei.

Massage

There are several options for massage and beauty treatments close by. Camelot Spa at the Royal Swazi Sun hotel (within 2km) is a luxurious choice. Other options include the New Leaf at the Gables or the Hot Springs Spa at the Cuddle Puddle.

Zebras

Hike, bike, tour or drive Mlilwane Game Reserve just a few minutes down the road from Lidwala. Get a close look at everything from hundreds of Zebras, to Execution Rock and lazy crocodiles.

Game Drives

Hlane Royal National Park is home to the largest herds of game in Swaziland encompassing 22’000 hectares, it houses lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, hippos, impalas, and a host of other species. Game drives are available from R170 to R2010 depending on the length of time.

Mountain Biking

With quality mountain bicycles available to rent nearby you can experience the natural and cultural delights of Swaziland. There are guided safari and cultural tours available through Swazi Trails. Or rent one for your own day of exploring Ezulwini Valley incl. Mlilwane and Mantenga by bike.

Horse Riding

With Mlilwane Game Park just around the corner, horseback riding is available for all levels and a fantastic opportunity to experience nature. Anything from 1 hour to 2 day tours is available including full-moon horseback rides to the top of Execution Rock.

Golf

The Royal Swazi Sun (within 2km) has a competition quality 18 hole golf course and if you just want to test your swing there is a driving range within 1km.

Night Life

With regular DJ shows and live band performances at House on Fire (an easy drive or taxi ride down the road), Swaziland’s night-life center par excellence, is within easy reach of Lidwala as is the tasteful Malandela’s pub and restaurant.

Bird Watching

Lidwala’s gardens and hiking trail are great for bird watching. Collared sunbirds and paradise flycatchers have been found nesting near the lodge and the bird list is currently 115 species long with some regular specials including the purple crested turaco and the white fronted bee eater. You can do the hike to the top of Sheba or  the full day hike to the top and over. This will take you to Mantenga falls to cool off in the river and you can watch the cultural dance at an additional cost.

Rock Climbing

Lidwala’s hiking trail, to the top of Sheba’s breast, takes you to several granite rock faces highly suitable for rock climbing. Ranging in height from 5m-20m, they have difficulty ratings from novice to extremely challenging with breath-taking panoramic views.

Craft Market

Swaziland is renowned for it’s creative rural craft. The impressive Ezulwini craft market is less than 1km down the road and well worth a visit. A little further but still within 2km are the Mantenga and Gables craft markets. The Swazi Candles and Ngwenya glass are both within a short drive.

Hiking Trail

Lidwala has it’s own hiking trail that starts behind the lodge and leads you along a stream, through an indigenous forest and up Sheba’s breast mountain to the summit where you get 360 degree views over the Ezulwini valley and Mlilwane Wildlife Sancuary.
